چکیده
The closing sentence of Paul Lauterbur’s seminal article on MRI is “Zeugmatographic (imaging) techniques should find many useful applications in studies of the internal structures, states and composition of microscopic objects”. His innovation opened a world of applications for MRI in medicine and biology. This talk will focus on the cycle of innovation and application that has propelled us to MR histology at spatial resolution more than 100,000 X that of the clinical domain. This application has in turn driven innovation to increase the resolution and extend the technique to quantitative measures of connectivity in mouse and rat models of disease and injury.

Application of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as a safe & Application of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as a safe & non-destructive method for monitoring of fruit & vegetable in postharvest period
To investigate and control quality, one must be able to measure quality-related attributes. Quality of produce encompasses sensory attributes, nutritive values, chemical constituents, mechanical properties, functional properties and defects. MRI has great potential for evaluating the quality of fruits and vegetables. The equipment now available is not feasible for routine quality testing. The ...
متن کاملIn vivo imaging of vessel diameter, size, and density: a comparative study between MRI and histology.
The aim of this study was to compare magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and histological estimates of the mean vessel diameter (mVD), the vessel density (Density), and the vessel size index (VSI) obtained in the same tumor-bearing animals. Twenty-seven rats bearing intracranial glioma (C6 or RG2) were imaged by MRI. Changes in transverse relaxations (ΔR 2* and R(2)) were induced by the injection ...
متن کاملMagnetic resonance histology for morphologic phenotyping.
Magnetic resonance histology (MRH) images of the whole mouse have been acquired at 100-micron isotropic resolution at 2.0 T with image arrays of 256 x 256 x 1024. Higher resolution (50 x 50 x 50 microns) of limited volumes has been acquired at 7.1T with image arrays of 512 x 512 x 512. Even higher resolution images (20 x 20 x 20 microns) of isolated organs have been acquired at 9.4 T. The volum...
متن کاملQuantitative fat and R2* mapping in vivo to measure lipid-rich necrotic core and intraplaque hemorrhage in carotid atherosclerosis.
PURPOSE The aim of this work was to quantify the extent of lipid-rich necrotic core (LRNC) and intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) in atherosclerotic plaques. METHODS Patients scheduled for carotid endarterectomy underwent four-point Dixon and T1-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at 3 Tesla. Fat and R2* maps were generated from the Dixon sequence at the acquired spatial resolution of 0.60 × ...
متن کاملMultimodal imaging of human cerebellum - merging X-ray phase microtomography, magnetic resonance microscopy and histology
Imaging modalities including magnetic resonance imaging and X-ray computed tomography are established methods in daily clinical diagnosis of human brain. Clinical equipment does not provide sufficient spatial resolution to obtain morphological information on the cellular level, essential for applying minimally or non-invasive surgical interventions. Therefore, generic data with lateral sub-micr...
